1. Боинг P-8A Посейдон (англ. Boeing P-8 Poseidon) — патрульный противолодочный самолёт, разрабатываемый по программе «Многоцелевой Морской Самолёт» (англ. Multimission Maritime Aircraft (MMA)) для замены Lockheed P-3 Orion.
2. Данный экземпляр P-8A (бн 429) входит в 16 эскадрилью VP-16 "War Eagles" и базируется на авиабазе ВВС США Kadena на японском острове Окинава, в составе которой 6 P-8A, для обеспечения действий 7-го флота ВМС США
3. Самолет совершил первый полет 25 апреля 2009 года. В настоящее время находится в опытной эксплуатации в ВМС США
4. Вторым заказчиком самолета P-8 стала Индия, которая подписала контракт на 6 самолетов P-8I Neptun.
5. Третьим заказчиком P-8, скорее всего, станет Австралия, которая планирует приобрести 8 или даже более самолетов P-8

The Pentagon's Director of Operational Test and Evaluation office called the P-8A ineffective for its missions of large area ISR and anti-submarine warfare, and said that the initial aircraft are not ready for deployment. Additional testing is to be conducted to verify and correct the problems.[49] The same report found that the P-8 was effective at the small-area search mission typically assigned to the P-3, and with much better range, speed, and reliability than the older aircraft.[50] Pentagon acquisition undersecretary Frank Kendall has disputed the report saying the P-8 is ineffective by saying that although its findings are factual, it did not acknowledge that its abilities are to be upgraded over time. Initial entry into service included minor anti-submarine capabilities, while technology phases over the next few years will make the aircraft capable of wider-area surveillance.[51]

Предназначен для обнаружения и уничтожения подводных лодок противника в районах патрулирования. Конструкция самолёта базируется на фюзеляже лайнера Boeing 737—800 и крыльях от Boeing 737—900.
